Christian Eriksen will not play against Arsenal tomorrow but Brentford boss Thomas Frank says there is a possibility that he could be involved against Newcastle next weekend.

Eriksen has not played a first-team game since suffering a cardiac arrest while playing for Denmark at the European Championships last June.

But the midfielder took a significant step towards his return by featuring for the Bees in a behind closed doors against Southend earlier this week and will be involved in another friendly on Monday.

“Christian looked good in the 60 minutes he played. He’s looking good in training and feels well,” head coach Frank said.

“He’s been out for seven months. Normally you need a proper pre-season to get going.

“Of course he came to us with a good foundation so he doesn’t need six weeks, but this Arsenal game is just one step too early.

“We have another good opponent in a friendly game on Monday behind closed doors so that will be really beneficial for him.

“We’re aiming for the Newcastle game. Of course we knew Crystal Palace was too close but everything from there was open.

“It’s when he feels good but he’s in a good place so we’ll aim for Newcastle.”
