Bees want Ajeti as Brighton close in on Maupay deal

Brentford want to sign Switzerland striker Albian Ajeti from FC Basel.

Ajeti, 22, has been targeted as Brighton appear to be closing in on the signing of Neal Maupay.

However, capturing Ajeti might not be an easy task for the Bees.

He has three years left on his contract, is hoping a Premier League club will come in for him, and his wage demands deterred West Brom, who recently attempted to persuade him to join them.

Ajeti is nevertheless Brentford’s target as they seek a replacement for Maupay, who looks increasingly likely to leave.

Talks with Brighton over a deal to sell Maupay, also 22, to the south-coast club are at an advanced stage.

Meanwhile, Brentford have agreed the signing of winger Bryan Mbeumo from French club Troyes in a deal potentially worth more than £7m.

The Bees will leave Griffin Park next year
