Smith considered by Villa but Henry is first choice, Sunday Telegraph say

A look at the stories involving Brentford in Sunday’s newspapers….

Thierry Henry is reportedly Aston Villa’s first choice to take over as their new manager.

Brentford boss Dean Smith was initially touted as the favourite to take over at Villa Park following the Midlands club’s sacking of Steve Bruce last week.

Smith, a Villa fan, continues to be linked with the job but reports say former Arsenal star Henry is the front-runner.

Some reports suggest Henry has already been offered the role and is considering whether to accept.

The Sunday Telegraph say Henry is Villa’s preferred choice but that Smith and former Chelsea assistant boss Rui Faria are among those also being considered.

Meanwhile, The Sun on Sunday say Bournemouth are planning to make another move for Chris Mepham.

West London Sport first revealed Bournemouth’s interest in the Hammersmith-born defender and later also revealed the Cherries’ interest in his Brentford team-mate Ollie Watkins.

The Sun on Sunday also say Huddersfield want Brentford striker Neal Maupay.
