Delight for Andrews after Brentford’s thumping derby win

Keith Andrews expressed delight with his team’s performance after watching Brentford sweep Chelsea aside to secure a dominant 3-0 victory.

The Bees capitalised on set-pieces and controlled the game, producing a display built on grit, discipline, and relentless high pressing.

“I think we’ve shown different kinds of attributes in the last few weeks where we’ve had to dig deep, show real grit, resilience,” Andrews said.

“Opposition are setting up in a very respectful way I feel to try and nullify what we do, and then it’s on us to try and overcome that.

“I felt there was a performance bubbling – I just could see it in the players’ eyes over the last couple of days.

“The approach has been really focused, and I thought in the second half in particular we showed exactly what we are.”

The opening goal, scored by Jaidon Anthony, came via a well-drilled set-piece routine – and Andrews spoke about the meticulous preparation behind the success.

“Every set-piece is worked on,” he said.

“Sometimes you might get a stroke of luck if it doesn’t go in the right area, but someone pops up.

“It’s obviously something we paid close attention to and we felt there was an opportunity tonight if it was going to be the difference —and a game decided on set-pieces, we wanted it to be on our side.”

Andrews added:  “I just think there’s a really nice connection at the moment between the fans and the players and the club in general. I think it’s growing all the time.

“Everyone’s enjoying the journey that we’re on —especially me —and I just love watching us play. We want it to be a very difficult place for teams to come.”
