Council approve Brentford’s stadium plans

Brentford plan to begin construction of their new stadium next year after Hounslow Council approved revised plans for the ground at Lionel Road.

The Bees submitted revisions to make the build more financially viable earlier this year, reducing the proposed capacity to 17,250.

The reduced scale means it will not need further approval from London mayor Sadiq Khan.

The club hope to begin construction in February 2018 pending further agreements on obligations to the London Borough of Hounslow.

Bees chairman Cliff Crown said: “This decision by Hounslow Council is a great early Christmas present for fans.

“We now hope to be in a position to begin stadium construction in February 2018, following completion of a revised agreement with LBH on our obligations, and will share more details with fans on the stadium build phase early in the new year.”

Brentford intend to share the stadium with Premiership rugby team London Irish, who have been playing at Reading’s Madejski Stadium since 1998.
