Brentford triumph at City after late goals

Bristol City 1 Brentford 2

Late goals from substitute Sam Saunders and Clayton Donaldson gave Brentford a second successive victory.

After Uwe Rosler’s side had dominated the majority of the game, Saunders cut in from the left-hand side with 11 minutes remaining and fired home a deflected shot.

Saunders’ deep corner wasn’t dealt with by Bristol City defence and allowed Donaldson to then steal in at the far post and tap in from close range.

City pulled a goal back in stoppage time through substitute Marlon Harewood but they remain bottom of the league and without a league victory this season.

On-loan Cardiff winger Kadeem Harris made his full debut for the Bees after coming on as a substitute and scoring in the 3-1 win over Colchester on Saturday.

He started in place of Marcello Trotta, while Richard Lee replaced the injured David Button in goal.

The home side looked strong in the opening 20 minutes and had a number of shots from distance.

But Brentford grew into the the game and finished the half strongly with Alan McCormack, continuing at right-back, going close with an effort that shaved the top of the crossbar.

Trotta replaced the disappointing Will Grigg early in the second half but it was Saunders who came on to fire the visitors into the lead on 79 minutes.

His shot was deflected off the legs of a City defender, sending the keeper diving towards the opposite corner.

Donaldson then met Saunders’ cross to double the lead before Harewood tapped in from close range.

Brentford (4-3-3): Lee; McCormack, Dean, Craig, Bidwell; Forshaw, Douglas, Saville; Donaldson, Grigg (Trotta 54), Harris (Saunders 74).
Subs not used: O’Brien, El Alagui, Logan, Diagouraga, Taylor.
