Brilliant Brentford crush Chelsea in derby triumph

Brentford moved up to third in the Premier League table with a stunning victory over Chelsea in the west London derby.

A superb second-half display by Keith Andrews’ side saw goals by Jaidon Anthony, Igor Thiago and substitute Fabio Carvalho earn a second league win of the season.

They broke the deadlock on the hour mark when Anthony headed home from close range after Jannik Schuster managed to direct the ball back into the forward’s path from Mikkel Damsgaard’s corner.

Xavi Alonso’s side tried to respond but were consistently frustrated by the home defence.

And Brentford’s determination paid dividends courtesy of Thiago’s goal eight minutes from the end.

The Brazilian was on hand to prod the ball into the open goal, after keeper Emiliano Martinez could only palm the initial shot by Kevin Schade.

The fit-again Carvalho applied the gloss on an excellent night for the Bees in added time.

The winger, who had earlier come on for Damsgaard, forced the ball in from a couple of yards out, having been first to react to low cross by Schade which took a slight deflection on the way.

It was a night to savour for the home fans – who barracked Jordan Henderson on his first appearance for Chelsea since leaving Brentford to join them during the summer.
