Wolves 3 Brentford 0

Brentford missed the chance to move to within three points of the Championship play-off places as two goals in three second-half minutes set leaders Wolves on their way to a comprehensive win.

A stunning Ruben Neves free-kick put the hosts ahead at Molineux and, after Barry Douglas quickly crashed home a second, Diogo Jota sealed victory.

The Bees, who had won their past three matches, edged possession and created several excellent chances, but failed to get an effort on target.

And only some superb goalkeeping by Daniel Bentley prevented a more emphatic scoreline.

Leo Bonatini hit the post with near-post strike in the first few minutes, and Bentley made a stunning stop from Jota’s rasping shot, as well as equally impressive savea from Matt Dohery and Helder Costa.

Nico Yennaris also cleared a Jota header off the line, while Brentford were narrowly off target with a Yoann Barbet header and long-range strikes from Sergi Canos and Kamohelo Mokotjo.

But the game was as good as settled after the break by Neves’ sensational set-piece and a glorious Douglas hit following some great work by substitute Ivan Cavaliero.

Jota added a third ten minutes from time as Wolves eased 12 points clear from second-placed Derby County.
