Brentford would have deserved win – Andrews

Keith Andrews felt Brentford would have deserved their win had they managed to hang on against Everton.

A stoppage-time equaliser by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall denied Andrews’ side what would have been a monumental win in their pursuit of a European place.

Igor Thiago’s goal – his second of the match and 21st in the Premier League this season – looked to have secured the points for the Bees.

The striker opened the scoring with an early penalty and restored his team’s lead after Beto had equalised for Everton, who are also chasing a European place.

Seventh-placed Brentford remain in serious contention for Champions League football next season.

But they conceded a second equaliser when former Chelsea man Dewsbury-Hall fired home.

Bees boss Andrews said: “Unfortunately we couldn’t quite manage those last few moments to see out what I feel would have been a well-deserved win.”

Thiago’s brace meant he became his club’s top Premier League goalscorer, having overtaken former Brentford stars Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbeumo.

Andrews said “The goals get all the attention, but the overall performance levels continue to get better and better.

“He’s proving to be a very, very special player. Hopefully that can continue it for the rest of the season and beyond.”
