Forest consign Brentford to rare home defeat

Brentford 0
Nottm Forest 2
Jesus (12′)
Awoniyi (79′)

Brentford suffered a rare home defeat as goals from Igor Jesus and Taiwo Awoniyi early earned Nottingham Forest the points.

Forest went ahead after Rico Henry partially blocked Ola Aina’s cross and the ball looped up towards Jesus, who controlled on his chest near the right-hand edge of the six-yard box and fired into the far corner of the net.

Worse followed for the Bees when they had to make a double change eight minutes before half-time after both Kristoffer Ajer and Mikkel Damsgaard were taken off after suffering injuries in quick succession.

Brentford pinned Forest back for much of the second half but were unable to find an equaliser and the visitors defended well.

And Awoniyi doubled their lead on the counter-attack, skipping past Sepp van den Berg on the right and shooting past keeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

It was only the second home loss of the season for the Bees, whose best chance when they were one down fell to top scorer Igor Thiago, who fired wide.

Brentford: Kelleher, Kayode (Lewis-Poter 81), Ajer (Van den Berg 37), Collins, Henry (Hickey 67), Jensen, Yarmoliuk (Henderson 81), Janelt, Damsgaard (Ouattara 37), Thiago, Schade.
Subs not used: Valdimarsson, Pinnock, Nelson, Lewis-Potter, Donovan.
