Bees beat City but narrowly miss out on European place

Brentford 1 Man City 0

Brentford ended an impressive second season in the Premier League by beating the champions, but they narrowly missed out on a European place.

Wins for Tottenham and Aston Villa on the final day meant the Bees finished ninth in the table.

Despite not being able to secure a top-seven finish, it was a fine end to the campaign for Thomas Frank’s side.

And defender Pinnock celebrated his new four-year contract with the winner five minutes from time.

Kevin Schade burst down the right and clipped the ball towards Bryan Mbeumo, who headed across for Pinnock to blast home from 10 yards out.

Earlier, Yoane Wissa fired against the City post and Bees midfielder Vitaly Janelt shot over.

Brentford deserved their win and Ben Mee prevented a City equaliser by clearing off the line to deny Cole Palmer in stoppage time.
