Brentford were unlucky not to beat big-spending Wolves and are somehow still waiting for their first Championship win of the season.

Jota went closest to scoring for the Bees when he hit the woodwork shortly before half-time.

When the loose ball dropped to Jota after Nico Yennaris’ shot was blocked, the Spaniard side-footed past keeper John Ruddy only to see his shot come back off the post.

Earlier, Yennaris fired over and Ruddy produced a fine save to keep out a long-range strike from Romaine Sawyers.

Jota was also involved in the build up to Brentford’s best chance of the second half, laying the ball off to an unmarked Neal Maupay, who was unable to connect from eight yards out.

Wolves also had chances, not least when Matt Doherty blasted over after being teed up by Ivan Cavaleiro late on.

Brentford: Bentley; Dalsgaard, Dean, Barbet (Bjelland 71), Colin; Mokotjo (Woods 65), Yennaris, Sawyers; Jota (Jozefzoon 65), Maupay, Watkins.
Subs not used: Daniels, Egan, Clarke, Canos.
