Canos can have key role for Brentford, says Frank

Thomas Frank believes Sergi Canos can re-establish himself as a key player for Brentford this season.

Canos, 23, spent most of last season out of action because of a knee injury.

He is now fully fit – and scored twice in a recent friendly against Oxford.

That bodes well for the new campaign and head coach Frank wants to see Canos now take his game to a new level.

Frank said: “I hope he’ll have a big role. Sergi is such a talented player. He’s got all the ability in the world.

“Like with every other player, the mentality brings you the final bit.

“He’s got a good mentality but the difference with being a really influential player is that extra bit you can go and push yourself.

“He can drive the team, is so passionate and has such big energy.”

While Canos had to watch from the sidelines, wide-men Said Benrahma and Bryan Mbeumo carved reputations as part of the ‘BMW’ Bees attack alongside striker Ollie Watkins.

But Frank said: “I’m pretty sure that this famous ‘BMW’ wouldn’t have been as famous if Sergi was playing (more) last season, because he’s a player with the same capacity and levels as Said and Bryan.

“I think it was promising, his two goals against Oxford, and I’m looking forward to seeing more of that.”
