Brentford lose to Man Utd as winless run continues

Man Utd 2
Casemiro (11′)
Šeško (43′)
Brentford 1
Jensen (87′)

Brentford lost at Old Trafford despite creating several chances and threatening a late comeback.

First-half goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko put Manchester United in control.

Mathias Jensen scored in the 87th minute to give the Bees hope, but they were unable to find an equaliser.

The defeat was another blow for Brentford in their pursuit of a European place.

They were recently in contention for a Champions League spot, but six matches without a win – they drew five in a row before their visit to the north west – has left them ninth in the table, 10 points behind fifth–placed Aston Villa and two behind Brighton in sixth.

On a brighter note, Josh Dasilva was in a matchday squad for the first time since January 2024, having battled his way back from a long-term injury.

United went ahead when Casemiro had the simple task of nodding in after Bruno Fernandes’ corner had been headed back across goal by Harry Maguire.

Amad Diallo had a goal disallowed for offside shortly before winning the ball in midfield and finding Fernandes, who teed up Sesko to make it 2-0.

It was a hugely frustrating night for Brentford – Igor Thiago was unable to take three great chances to equalise before the second goal and, in the second half, Dango Ouattara hit the post from close range.

They eventually pulled a goal back through Jensen’s strike from near the edge of the penalty area.

And Mikkel Damgaard then had a chance to level but headed straight at keeper Senne Lammens.
