Brentford defender Van den Berg out with groin injury

Brentford defender Sepp van den Berg will miss the opening weeks of the season with a groin injury.

The Dutchman has endured an interrupted pre-season and Bees boss Keith Andrews has confirmed he will be sidelined for Saturday’s Premier League opener against Tottenham.

“Sepp has a groin issue,” Andrews said. “We’ve had to manage that in a certain way. He needs a little bit more rest, unfortunately for Sepp.

“He’s had a disjointed pre-season – it hasn’t flowed as well as we’d have liked – so we’re going to have to look after him in the short term. He’ll miss the first few weeks of the season.”

Antoni Milambo, meanwhile, is continuing his recovery from anterior cruciate ligament damage.

“Antoni is a few weeks behind with the injury,” said Andrews. “It’s not an exact science, naturally, but he’s had a really positive couple of weeks.

“He’s been training with the group for a number of weeks – sometimes modified, sometimes full training. He’s making really good strides.”
