Fit-again Ajer to return for Bees in cup tie

Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer

Thomas Frank has confirmed that Kristoffer Ajer will start for Brentford in Saturday’s FA Cup tie against Port Vale.

The Norway defender, a big-money signing from Celtic during the summer, has been out for more than two months with a hamstring injury.

Bryan Mbeumo is fit again and could also be involved this weekend.

The game comes just soon for Mathias Jensen and Sergi Canos, but they might well be available for Tuesday’s trip to Southampton, while Rico Henry is also close to a return.

Bees boss Frank said: “The good news that I can say is that Kristoffer will start, so that’s very positive. We need him to play.

“Sergi and Matty will not be involved in the game on Saturday. They should be available for Southampton – especially Matty.

“Bryan most likely will be involved in the game on Saturday. Charlie (Goode) and Zanka are a bit further away.”

Frank also indicated that Brentford are open to letting Marcus Forss leave on loan this month.
