Frank: Time was right to leave out Mbeumo

Thomas Frank says Brentford’s busy fixture schedule and Kevin Schade deserving a chance meant it was the right time to take Bryan Mbeumo out of the starting line-up.

Mbeumo has been a mainstay of the team in the Premier League but was a substitute for the defeat against Newcastle last Saturday, when Schade was given a second start since joining the club in January.

Bees boss Frank explained: “It’s all about performances. I think Bryan has been one of our most consistent performers over the years he’s been here and has also done very well this season – he’s taken his level an extra notch up.

“It was a combination of a three-game week and we had another player who looked ready in Kevin Schade – and he, by the way, did very well against Newcastle.

“So it’s about finding the balance between playing the normal starters that are performing well and getting a bit of freshness in the team.”

Meanwhile, captain Pontus Jansson is expected to miss the rest of the season because of a hamstring problem.
