Raya set to complete Arsenal move

Thomas Frank expects David Raya’s transfer from Brentford to Arsenal to go through shortly.

The goalkeeper is set to move to north London, having made it clear he wants to join the Gunners.

He will not be in Brentford’s squad for Sunday’s opening game of the season, against Tottenham.

Raya has a year remaining on his contract and rejected offers of a new deal.

Bees head coach Frank said: “I expect that deal to completed with Arsenal.

“He’s not here at the moment and he’ll not be involved on Sunday.”

Raya was a key player in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League and impressive showing in the top flight.

His decision to move on means he will now have to compete with Arsenal’s England keeper Aaron Ramsdale for a place.

“That’s David’s decision, not mine – I am of course biased,” said Frank.

“I think he’s a fantastic goalkeeper and his time here with us has been remarkable. It’s a fantastic journey we’ve been on together.

“David deserves a lot of praise. He’s been fantastic for us.”
