Bees will look to sign replacement if Woods goes

Brentford will look to replace Ryan Woods if the midfielder leaves before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Woods was the subject of a failed offer from Swansea and Bees boss Dean Smith admitted he was left out of their opening-day win over Rotherham because he was “distracted” by the uncertainty over his future.

Brentford have discussed possible options should Woods go, but Smith believes he has sufficient cover if the club are unable to bring anyone in.

“We are always looking to add good players to the squad but we also feel we’ve got a really healthy squad at the moment,” Smith said.

“Kamo Mokotjo was brought in to be a defensive midfielder, and such was Ryan’s form last season he remained there.

“We’ve also got Josh McEachran who has had an injury hit three seasons since he’s been at the football club and I thought he played really well (against Rotherham).

“So we’ve certainly got the cover there. But we’re always looking to improve where we can.”
