Bees star ‘gutted’ Warburton is leaving

Brentford striker Andre Gray says he is “gutted” manager Mark Warburton will be leaving in the summer.

Warburton, who will be replaced as part of a change of structure at Griffin Park, has shown great faith in Gray since the 23-year-old was signed from Luton last summer.

“Mark’s a great manager. He’s been fantastic to me and I don’t have a bad word to say about him,” Gray told West London Sport.

“It was a massive culture shock when I joined. I didn’t know the level of fitness required and that the pace of the game would be so intense, but I’m used to it now and that’s thanks partly to him.

“I can’t explain how grateful I am to him for giving me the opportunity to come here and the amount of games I have played so far.

“I’m gutted he’s leaving but it’s not just me – all the players are gutted.”

  • I think I'm right in saying that we as fans share the same disappointment. He (Mark) seems to have great man management skills, not to mention no small amount of tactical nous and I think his time away from football and his desire to come back starting in the lowest echelons of the game shows his appetite and commitment. I understand the statistical approach our owner wants to use to identify talent, I just wonder if it factors into the equation the type of temperament that person has, the type of style of football he's used to playing and the type of coach his manager needs to be to get the best out of him.....
