Jota and new signings play as Brentford win at Oxford

Brentford continued their preparations for the new season by winning 4-3 in a friendly at Oxford United, where Jota returned to action despite continued uncertainty over his future.

Florian Jozefzoon, Lasse Vibe, Reece Cole and Sergi Canos scored for the Bees, while new signings Henrik Dalsgaard and Luke Daniels both featured.

Fellow recent arrivals Kamohelo Mokotjo, Ollie Watkins and Neal Maupay were not involved. International clearance for South African Mokotjo has not yet been received.

Jota sat out matches against Aldershot and Lausanne because bid was expected from a Premier League club.

No offer has yet materialised and he returned to the Bees starling line-up and created their opener, crossing for Jozefzoon to head home.

Vibe made it 2-0 when he swept in Dalsgaard’s low cross, but Oxford pulled a goal back before half-time.

Jota hit the post before he was substituted after 65 minutes, and the hosts then scored twice to take the lead.

Substitute Reece Cole hit back for the visitors when he rifled home a free-kick, before Sergi Canos smashed home the winner late on.

Brentford (4-2-3-1): Daniels; Dalsgaard (Colin 65), Dean (Barbet 65), Bjelland (Egan 65), Henry (Field 65); Woods, McEachran (Cole 70); Jota (Clarke 65); Sawyers (Onariase 85), Jozefzoon (Canos 65); Vibe (Shaibu 65).
