Bees lose despite dominating at Orient

Leyton Orient 1 Brentford 0

Brentford were hit with a classic sucker punch at Brisbane Road, where substitute Ryan Brunt’s 75th-minute goal condemned them to a painful defeat.

They dominated most of the game but were unable to clear a ball into the box by former Bees midfielder Martin Rowlands, and Brunt was on hand to fire home from close range.

Ryan Allsop had been by far the busier keeper, producing first-half saves to deny Brentford striker Clayton Donaldson and the impressive Harry Forrester.

Early in the second half, Harlee Dean blasted over from seven yards out after the home side had failed to clear Adam Forshaw’s right-wing corner.

Brentford continued to have the upper hand, with Forrester breaking down the left and sending in a low cross towards Paul Hayes, who was thwarted by Ben Chorley’s last-ditch challenge.

Hayes then saw a deflected shot go narrowly wide and Jake Bidwell’s well-struck free-kick was pushed away by Allsop as the visitors kept up the pressure.

The O’s survived another scare when Dean’s header from a Bidwell free-kick was saved by Allsop – and they then went ahead completely against the run of play.

Having looked vulnerable at the back for large parts of the match, Orient defended well in the closing stages.

Donaldson had Brentford’s only real chance to equalise but shot straight at Allsop after being found by substitute Tom Adeyemi.
