Bees denied after Forrester’s opener

Scunthorpe 1 Brentford 1

Leon Clarke netted a 77th-minute equaliser for Scunthorpe, who ended the match with only 10 men.

Clayton Donaldson missed a first-half penalty for Brentford, but they were leading through Harry Forrester’s goal when former QPR striker Clarke headed home Mark Duffy’s right-wing cross.

Iron defender David Mirfin was sent off for a second bookable offence following a foul on Jonathan Douglas with four minutes remaining, but his team held on for a point.

Mirfin had earlier conceded a penalty by handling a shot from Donaldson, who fired the resulting spot-kick wide of the target.

Brentford kept the pressure up and led at half-time courtesy of Forrester, who squirmed away from two defenders before finishing coolly.

Paul Hayes – playing against his former club – went close to adding a second for the Bees, as did Toumani Diagouraga and Harlee Dean.

Uwe Rosler’s team seemed in complete control, but when Duffy was given space on the flank he took full advantage, setting up a goal that denied Brentford a first away win of the season.

Brentford (4-4-2): Moore; Logan, Dean, Craig, Bidwell; Forshaw (Adeyemi 80), Diagouraga, Douglas, Forrester (Dallas 87); Donaldson, Hayes (Saunders 72)
Subs (not used): Lee, O’Connor, Legge, Barron.
