Bees crush promotion rivals Preston

Preston 0 Brentford 3

Adam Forshaw, Marcello Trotta and Sam Saunders scored the goals as Brentford stormed to victory against their promotion rivals, making it two wins out of two under manager Mark Warburton.

Bees keeper David Button saved a penalty on a great day for Warburton’s men at Deepdale, where they moved to within one point of League One leaders Leyton Orient.

Forshaw put them ahead with a penalty midway through the first half after striker Clayton Donaldson had been fouled in the area by goalkeeper Declan Rudd, who was yellow-carded.

Forshaw then turned provider to set up Trotta to double the lead three minutes later – the on-loan Fulham man’s fifth goal of the season.

Preston had chances and Button did brilliantly to keep out Joe Garner’s penalty early in the second half.

The win was sealed when George Saville’s 73rd-minute cross was volleyed home by Saunders.

It was Brentford’s ninth victory in 10 unbeaten league games and their seventh clean sheet in eight matches.
