Bees close to defender signing as Bjelland is ruled out for season

Brentford are on the verge of completing a deal for Anderlecht defender Maxime Colin – but have lost centre-back Andreas Bjelland for the rest of the season.

Bjelland, 26, who only joined the Bees last month, will need surgery on the knee ligament injury sustained in Tuesday night’s League Cup defeat to Oxford.

Neil Greig, Brentford’s head of medical, said the Danish international would need nine months to recover fully from the operation.

But Brentford are close to adding to their back four with a move for 23-year-old French full-back Colin, who has been undergoing a medical at Griffin Park.

He has played 25 times for Anderlecht, including one Europa League appearance, and is set to replace Moses Odubajo, who joined Hull City last week.
