Bees boss tells fans to get behind Trotta

Manager Uwe Rosler has urged Brentford supporters to get behind Marcello Trotta and move on from the missed penalty that cost the club promotion last season.

The Fulham youngster, back for a second loan spell at Griffin Park, infamously hit the bar from the spot against Doncaster after refusing to allow club captain Kevin O’Connor to take the last-gasp kick.

He scored nine times during an otherwise successful stay last term but has struggled to make the same impact this time around.

Rosler has been supportive of Trotta.

Some fans were unhappy at the decision to re-sign Trotta, but Rosler is hoping the striker’s goal against Colchester on Saturday will help win them over.

Rosler said: “We should forget what happened last year and give the boy a chance. When he plays badly then yes, no problem, boo me – but not him.

“He was the guy that wanted the ball all the time, from the first minute of the first half – he was the one who wanted the ball the most.

“He lost a few balls and the supporters were on his back but he was not affected and kept on going.

“I see the player every day in training, every finishing session and what he did before for us.

“I think he can give us something. He can give us what we need this season.”
