Bees boost play-off hopes with fine win

MK Dons 1 Brentford 2

Clayton Donaldson and Jonathan Douglas scored first-half goals as Brentford kept their play-off hopes alive with a fine away victory.

The in-form Donaldson struck first, putting the Bees ahead with an excellent finish from a tight angle after collecting Sam Saunders’ pass.

It was the striker’s fourth goal in three matches, and Douglas then doubled the lead when he fired into the top corner of the net after being teed up by Shaleum Logan.

Donaldson and Niall McGinn both came close to adding a third as the visitors gave as good as they got during an even second half.

Brentford looked comfortable but were forced to endure a nervy finish after striker Charlie MacDonald, playing against his former team, was bundled over by Karleigh Osborne with two minutes remaining.

Shaun Williams converted the resulting penalty and MK Dons came close to snatching a point when Jabo Ibehre hit the post in stoppage time.
