Bees beaten by late Rovers comeback

Doncaster 2 Brentford 1

Two late goals condemned Brentford to a painful defeat at the Keepmoat Stadium.

They looked to be heading for a first away win of the season courtesy of Jonathan Douglas’ opener.

However, David Cotterill’s stunning long-range strike hauled the hosts level before Billy Paynter netted an 84th-minute winner.

Douglas fired home with the outside of the boot after being set up by Adam Forshaw’s lovely pass.

The goal came in the final minute of a first half that Brentford dominated – Harlee Dean and Clayton Donaldson had both gone close to putting them in front.

Tom Adeyemi had two decent chances to double the advantage in the second half but fired wide of the target, while Donaldson sent an effort harmlessly over the bar.

Keen to protect his team’s lead, Bees boss Uwe Rosler sent Kevin O’Connor on for the impressive Forshaw with 18 minutes remaining.

But two minutes later Rovers equalised out of nothing, with Cotterill hitting the net from 35 yards.

And a defensive lapse then allowed Paynter to nip in and score from Martin Woods’ cross.
