Andrews unhappy with refereeing after Bees draw

Brentford boss Keith Andrews made his frustration with the officiating clear after his side were held to a draw by Sunderland, with two major VAR interventions shaping the game.

The hosts had to wait almost five minutes for confirmation that Daniel Ballard’s early strike wouldn’t stand, with the officials eventually ruling that Kevin Danso had been blocking goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher’s eyeline in the build-up.

Brentford were then denied victory late on when Keane Lewis-Potter was penalised for a holding offence on substitute Wilson Isidor, allowing Sunderland to convert from the spot in the 82nd minute.

Andrews was careful with his words afterwards but didn’t hide his unhappiness with how the game had been officiated.

“I don’t tend to go on about the officials too much,” he said. “I don’t want to discuss them more than I already have, because I’ll talk myself into trouble.

“I didn’t like the flow of the game and I thought there were instances where it wasn’t quite under control. Some of the decisions weren’t right for me.”
