Andrews insists Brentford should have been awarded penalty
Keith Andrews insisted Brentford should have been awarded a second-half penalty in their 3-0 defeat at Manchester City.
With the Bees trailing 1-0 at the time, Kevin Schade was nudged over by Matheus Nunes, but no spot-kick was awarded despite a VAR check.
Officials informed Andrews that there was “not enough contact” to warrant a penalty.
“The one in the second half when Kev is going through and (Igor) Thiago squares it to him — in what world he goes down unless there’s contact is beyond me,” head coach Andrews said.
“There’s a goal there for him to get us back to 1-1. That’s probably the one where I’m struggling to comprehend a little bit.
“The comment I had was ‘not enough contact’, but someone that is as quick as Kevin Schade with his eyes on goal, I’m not really sure how much contact he’s looking for.
“Presumably, if he’s clean through on goal and he’s got a chance to score, it doesn’t have to be an awful lot of contact in his back to give a foul.”
The Bees remain in contention for a European place but the defeat leaves them eighth in the Premier League table with two matches remaining.
“Probably wasn’t the target at the start of the season,” Andrews said.
“The target was initially to stabilise probably an uncertain environment because of the amount of changes [last summer].
“We’re just really, really keen to continue that. I anticipate we’ll get two good performances in the last two games and let’s see where that leaves us.”
