Andrews hails ‘grit and character’ after ‘crazy’ Bees victory
Keith Andrews was pleased to collect the points at Burnley regardless of the incredible nature of Brentford’s 4-3 win.
The Bees took advantage of some appalling Burnley defending to score three times in the opening 34 minutes, with Mikkel Damsgaard, Igor Thiago and Kevin Schade netting.
Michael Kayode, back after injury, scored an own goal in the final moments of the first half to give the beleaguered hosts hope.
That hope increased dramatically with Jadon Anthony’s deflected strike a couple of minutes after the restart.
After Zian Flemming equalised and then had a goal disallowed, Damsgaard restored Brentford’s lead in stoppage time.
And there was more drama to follow, with Ashley Barnes appearing to equalise before the goal was disallowed for handball following a lengthy VAR check.
Boss Andrews said:“This was never going to be an easy game. If I’d been asked if I would accept a 4-3 victory, I would have taken it. Obviously it’s come in crazy circumstances.
“Far too much drama for my liking. But I thought the grit and character we showed was very pleasing to see.”
The win left Brentford seventh in the Premier League table, five points from the top four.
“I haven’t looked at the table. We just keep pushing and we’ve got another tough one on Tuesday against Bournemouth,” Andrews said.
