Andrews defends Kelleher after Brentford’s derby defeat

Keith Andrews defended Caoimhín Kelleher after the goalkeeper’s costly error in the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea.

Brentford had the Blues under pressure for much of the second half but there was no way back for them after Cole Palmer’s penalty.

The spot-kick came about when a back-pass from fellow Irishman Nathan Collins played Kelleher into trouble and, after a poor touch, he brought down Liam Delap.

But Bees boss Andrews said: “He’s been sensational all season long. That’s just one of those things, and I’m okay with that.

“We want our goalkeeper to play with personality and courage, like all of our players,

“All the outfield players make mistakes. Caoimhín’s made one today.”

The result meant Chelsea went above Brentford in the table.

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior, meanwhile, praised his players for their efforts, insisting a virus in the camp was the reason for their lethargic display.
