Rosenior left to rue ‘one-in-a-thousand moment’ after Chelsea draw
Liam Rosenior was left to rue the “one-in-a-thousand moment” in which Cole Palmer missed a stoppage-time sitter for Chelsea in their 2-2 draw with Leeds.
The Blues lost a two-goal lead at Stamford Bridge and Palmer should have put them back in front but contrived to miss the target from a couple of yards out.
Rosenior said: “He’s in the position and 999 times out of 1000 he scores. It was just that one-in-a-thousand moment.”
A first-half goal from Joao Pedro and a 57th-minute penalty from Palmer put Chelsea in control.
But Leeds responded with a penalty by Lukas Nmecha and a goal by Noah Okafo to deny Rosenior a fifth straight Premier League win since taking over as head coach.
The hosts surged forward in the final stages but were unable to find a winner.
“The last 20 minutes was wave after wave of attack,” said Rosenior.
“The lads’ energy, considering the amount of games we’ve played, the belief they showed, we create chance after chance and just didn’t quite go in.”
Ultimately, though, Rosenior’s side paid the price for some sloppy defending, which enabled Leeds to get back into the game.
“We shouldn’t be in that position,” he admitted.
“When we lead 2-0 at home the game should be done. There are things I can show the players to make sure that can’t happen again.
“Anything can happen in football when you don’t take care of key moments.”
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella will have a scan to determine the extent of a hamstring injury.
