Brentford FC’s Top 5 Record-Breaking Transfer Sales

Brentford are a club that has shown dedication, hard work, and a strong fan base, which is the recipe for performing in England’s top division, one of the toughest leagues in the world. Brentford have taken on a structure that has been perfectly utilised by the likes of Brighton and Bournemouth, taking advantage of buying you talent for cheap, and selling for high in order to progress through the English pyramid. Brentford’s current position in the Premier League is a credit to their business model and management from former boss Thomas Frank.

With that being said, BoyleSports, the home of blackjack online games, will be taking a look at Brentford FC’s Top 5 record-breaking transfer sales.

David Raya

Regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in the past few years, David Raya has had a relatively humble upbringing in English football, learning his trade while outside of England’s top flight. The Spanish international progressed from the youth side of Blackburn Rovers, making his debut in 2014, where he would spend 5 years playing both Championship, EFL League 1, and the fifth tier of English football with Southport FC on loan. His talent was noticed by the ambitious Brentford, who signed him in 2019, playing a big part in their eventual promotion to the Premier League through the 2021 playoffs. After 2 impressive seasons with the Bees, he was loaned to Arsenal, pushing out established Aaron Ramsdale and signing permanently for £27 million, a big fee for a goalkeeper.

Ollie Watkins

Ollie Watkins was another influential figure who massively helped Brentford achieve their dreams of reaching the heights of the Premier League. While Watkins wasn’t in the squad for Brentford’s promotion season, he played a big part in helping to establish Brentford as a promotion contender, which could have influenced other stars, such as David Raya, to make the move to West London. He started his career at Exeter before moving to Brentford in 2017 for a relatively low fee of £1.8 million. He quickly established himself in red and white, becoming one of the top strikers in the Championship, drawing the attention of many Premier League sides. In 2020, Watkins chose to make the move to Aston Villa for over £28 million, and now features as their starting striker, also featuring within the England setup.

Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney, a player who has had a relatively disappointing career, shone during his time at Brentford, replacing Ollie Watkins in 2020 and helping to guide the Bees to the Premier League. The English international is a deadly striker who has represented 8 different clubs in English football, including Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic, and Peterborough United. His time at Peterborough was where he was discovered by Brentford, costing around £5-£10 million. He spent 4 years in total with the Bees, netting over 67 goals in 125 appearances, becoming a fan favourite at the Gtech Community Stadium. His natural goalscoring ability drew the attention of England boss Gareth Southgate, making his debut in 2023 and even scoring for the Three Lions. Toney was sold in 2024 to Al Ahli for around £40 million, where he continues to play in 2025.

Yoanne Wissa

One of Brentford’s most recent departures, Yoanne Wissa, was one of Brentford’s statement signings when they came into the Premier League in 2021. The DR Congo international quickly became a fan favourite, forming formidable partnerships across the pitch as he played a huge role in keeping the club safe from the drop. The French-born forward spent his career in France up until 2021, joining the Bees from Lorient, where he impressed fans in over 115 appearances for the club. A fee of £8.5 million was agreed between the 2 clubs, bringing Wissa to the Gtech Community Stadium, where he quickly became a fan favourite. Upon the expiration of his contract, tension rose between the forward and the club, forcing a £50 million move to Newcastle United, where he made his first appearance in December.

Bryan Mbeumo

Bryan Mbeumo was pivotal in Brentford’s promotion, playing a key role as a midfielder and forward, even building a strong partnership with Yoanne Wissa during the Premier League era. Brentford signed Mbeumo from Troyes in France for a fee of only £5.4 million in 2019, where he went on to make over 220 appearances in red and white, netting over 60 goals in his 6-year spell in West London. After switching allegiance to Cameroon in 2022, Mbeumo has become a huge figure on their side and now benefits the Premier League giants Manchester United. He joined the Red Devils in 2025 for a fee of £65 million, becoming the club’s record sale to date. During the start of the 2025/26 campaign, he started strongly and became one of United’s key figures, lining up in a strong midfield alongside Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha.
