Stephan praises QPR players and fans after FA Cup defeat
Julien Stephan said he was proud of QPR’s players and fans after the FA Cup defeat against West Ham.
Rangers forced extra time at the London Stadium, but a 2-1 loss meant the club again went out at the third-round stage.
They caused the Premier League strugglers problems, but Rangers ultimately fell short – and were not helped by their ongoing injury woes.
Asked if it was perhaps an opportunity missed, head coach Stephan said: “I think it was an opportunity to show the values and qualities of QPR’s players.
“What they showed today, I’m very proud of that. What the fans showed today, very proud of that as well.
“The players gave everything to push a Premier League team. I think they did very well.
“We played this game without seven or eight players – and very important players as well – and that’s why I’m very proud of the players and what they did.”
The 9,000 or so QPR fans did at least enjoy a moment to savour when Richard Kone equalised in front of them in the second half.
“It was an amazing moment. During one or two seconds I thought we were in Loftus Road,” Stephan said.
“I think it was another important moment in the relationship between the players and fans – and will probably increase that as well for the future.
“The noise they did was fantastic and I think the players used it to take a lot of energy.
“We are very proud of the fans. It was amazing. It was fantastic.”
