QPR expect Cesar to go and Green to stay

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has admitted selecting Rob Green because he believes the England international will be his goalkeeper in the Championship next season.

Julio Cesar, who has attracted interest from Arsenal, is expected to move on in the wake of Rangers’ relegation from the top flight and looks to have played his last game for the club.

There has also been speculation about Green’s future, but Redknapp expects him to stay at Loftus Road so has opted to pick him for the final matches of the campaign.

Redknapp explained: “It’s a difficult situation because I want to play Rob Green as I don’t see Julio being here next year.

Chris Samba of QPR
There are also doubts over Samba’s future.

“I think Julio is a player for top Italian, Spanish and Premier League teams. He’s good enough to play anywhere.

“Rob’s come in and done well and he’s the goalkeeper I’m looking to play here next season.

“Julio I think will look to move on. He’s in the Brazil team and is not a player for the Championship.

“With the World Cup coming up he’s going to want to play in the Premier League or a big club abroad.”

Redknapp has insisted that January signing Chris Samba, who has also not featured of late, has been left out because of a knee problem.

But there is also uncertainty over the defender’s future and Redknapp conceded: “I’m not sure what will happen with him.

“I’m like to keep him. He’d be the best centre-half in the Championship. We need him back playing.”
