Whiley targets Wimbledon doubles hat-trick

Jordanne Whiley and Yui Kamiji

Jordanne Whiley will bid for a hat-trick of Wimbledon women’s doubles titles on Sunday – but her singles dream is over.

Ickenham-based Whiley, aiming for her eighth Grand Slam doubles crown, teamed up once again with Japan’s Yui Kamiji to win their semi-final on Friday against Louise Hunt and Marjolein Buis, 6-1, 6-3.

They will now take on Dutch second seeds, and familiar foes, Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot, in a repeat of the last three Wimbledon women’s wheelchair doubles finals.

Whiley was also hoping to become the first winner of the inaugural singles competition, but suffered defeat to van Koot in the semi-finals.

US Open singles champion Whiley, who overcame fellow Brit Lucy Shuker in the quarters, was beaten 7-5, 6-3.
