Fulham are in negotiations with Nigel Pearson and hope to appoint him as their new head coach before the weekend.

Alan Curbishley is standing by to take charge of the team for Saturday’s match against MK Dons, having been asked to take training following the recent sacking of Kit Symons.

But the club are trying to tie up a deal that would see Pearson, who was sacked by Leicester in June, take over at Craven Cottage.

A number of other candidates, including former Brentford boss Uwe Rosler, have been considered, but Pearson is Fulham’s first choice.

The 52-year-old former Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough centre-back has also been linked with the vacant manager’s job at QPR, but has not been considered for that role.

Pearson had two spells in charge at Leicester and has also managed Hull, Southampton and Carlisle.
