Cleverley ’50-50′ for Chelsea game – Martinez

Martinez is keen to keep Stones at Goodison Park

Everton boss Roberto Martinez says midfielder Tom Cleverley is “50-50” for Saturday’s trip to Chelsea.

Cleverley has missed Everton’s last two games with an Achilles problem, picked up in the League Cup semi-final first leg win over Manchester City nine days ago.

But Martinez said that, while the former Manchester United man could play some part at Stamford Bridge, James McCarthy and Seamus Coleman are definitely ruled out.

He said: “Tom is recovering really well. He could be 50-50 to be involved in the game.

“James McCarthy has started to do some good work but won’t be involved tomorrow, although he’s not too far away. Seamus Coleman is in the same recovery process.

“Steven Pienaar has been involved in two games and had no reaction, which is really positive news. We’ve got exactly the same squad that we had against Manchester City.”

Everton travel to Chelsea boosted by their resolute performance in the goalless league game at City on Wednesday.

But Martinez warned that, despite a poor league position, Guus Hiddink’s side still have a dangerous squad capable of turning on the style at a moment’s notice.

He said: “Chelsea are a team full of winning footballers. They have players that in one second can produce something magical and that demands a level of concentration and focus.

“But in the same way we want to be ourselves and go to Stamford Bridge and perform the way we’ve been doing away from home this season.

“It’s a very demanding week with two away games as difficult as you’re going to get.

“We need to make sure that mentally and physically we’re ready for the challenge.”
