Fabregas backed ahead of Arsenal clash

Jose Mourinho believes Cesc Fabregas deserves a warm reception from Arsenal fans on Sunday, when the Spaniard will face the Gunners for the first time since his summer move to west London.

Blues boss Mourinho says he has no idea what the reaction to Fabregas will be from the visiting supporters at Stamford Bridge – and has called upon the home fans to make themselves heard.

He said: “I think the reaction from Arsenal fans depends on Chelsea fans. If 40,000 Blues fans want, nobody will listen to 3,000 red fans. For me that’s an important point.”

Fabregas, 27, made more than 300 appearances for the north London club before leaving for Barcelona in 2011.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has made it clear he believes the midfielder should be given a good reception.

Mourinho added: “Fabregas was almost made at Arsenal and I think the feeling should be a good feeling between Arsenal and him.

“The important thing is that he’s a Chelsea player and has been phenomenal for us in every game. I couldn’t be happier with the moment we decided to bring him.”
