Chris Ramsey defended Shaun Wright-Phillips in the aftermath of a 6-0 defeat at Manchester City that confirmed QPR’s relegation.
Wright-Phillips, returning to his former club, received rapturous applause from the City fans when he was brought on towards the end of the game – but was booed by the travelling Rangers fans.
Asked if Wright-Phillips was one of the “bad eggs” recently referred to QPR midfielder Joey Barton, head coach Ramsey: “I wouldn’t say Shaun particularly, because Shaun’s been on the bench most of the time.
“I’ve used him when I’ve seen it was the right time to use him. There’s obviously other players who could’ve helped us, (but) Shaun has trained fantastically and he’s been on the bench.
“Players had tired legs and I thought it would have been an injustice to bring on a youngster who would’ve probably damaged his confidence more than it would have for a senior pro coming on the pitch.”
Ramsey added: “I think Joey’s comment about the bad eggs, if you go to any club there’s going to be bad eggs.
“What Joey probably alluded to was that there are people who could’ve helped us but haven’t helped us, and I don’t want to expand on that.”
Ramsey reiterated his desire to continue at the helm despite the heavy defeat and just two wins since taking charge in early February.
He said: “I know that generally people look for heads when there’s a heavy defeat.
“I’m hoping they make a positive decision towards me and I’m at the helm to help them in their long-term plans.”
Ramsey blamed Rangers’ humiliating loss at the Etihad Stadium on their defensive mistakes – particularly in the build-up to City’s third goal.
He said: “We talked about certain things before the game and one or two switched off and didn’t do it. Then all of a sudden you’ve got a mountain to climb
“When you have individual mistakes that we have coming into the second half, that killed us really. Yhe third goal was just an individual mistake.
“Then it’s very difficult when you’re out there in front of that crowd when they’re popping the ball about.
“I don’t think they gave up, I just think that on the day our quality was nowhere near what it should be for a Premiership team.”

Ramsey was surely right not to chuck the youngsters into that catastrophe but we'll need them next year and we'll need a decent scouting system. In fact everything we did after our last relegation we need to do the opposite. Would like to see Ramsey with Warburton but if we do it properly it is going to take time. I think Fernandes has finally understood that.
Doesn't fill you with confidence, does he? Nice bloke, but not the right man for the huge job that needs doing at Rangers.
