QPR youngsters bow out after taking Man Utd to extra time

QPR’s youngsters took Manchester United to extra time before bowing out of the FA Youth Cup in a 2-1 defeat.

Rangers’ Poland Under-18 goalkeeper Marcin Brzozowski produced a number of fine saves in the third-round tie at Leigh Sports Village, where Callum Whelan eventually put United ahead midway through the second half.

Paul Furlong’s side levelled on 77 minutes when Ody Alfa applied the finishing touch at the far post following good work by Josh Bowler.

But United regained the lead with a penalty two minutes into extra time, which proved to be enough to take them through.

Marcus Rashford, who fired against the bar in the final minutes of normal time, scored from the spot after Brzozowski had brought him down.
