QPR youngster expected to be out until after Christmas

QPR expect Charlie Owens to be sidelined until after Christmas with a knee problem.

The youngster suffered the injury during a recent Under-23 match against Bournemouth and has undergone surgery.

Midfielder Owens, 21, was picked up by Rangers in 2017 after being released by Tottenham and spent the second half of last season on loan at Wycombe.

He made his full QPR debut in last month’s Carabao Cup defeat against Portsmouth and was praised for his performance by manager Mark Warburton.

“Unfortunately Charlie twisted his right knee and has torn his cartilage,” QPR’s head of medical services Dr Imtiaz Ahmad told the club website.

“After seeing the specialist it was quickly agreed that having surgery was the best course of action.

“He subsequently had an operation on Saturday. This type of injury normally takes three to four months to repair.

“Charlie is naturally disappointed but upbeat and determined to come back strongly.”
