QPR chiefs confident over transfers

New QPR manager Mark Hughes is confident the club will be able to make major signings despite January usually being a difficult time to recruit quality players.

Hughes is keen to add at least a couple of new faces to his squad in the coming days and believes there is more room to manoeuvre than during previous mid-season transfer windows.

QPR officials are working on a number of possible transfers.

“It’s not easy in January. Invariably you are scraping around, but in fairness it seems there is a better quality of player available this time,” said Hughes.

Club chief executive Philip Beard has spent the week trying to negotiate a number of possible deals as Rangers look to strengthen.

Teams are often reluctant to part with players at this stage of the season, but he remains optimistic that signings will soon be made.

Beard said: “I’m finding that in January it’s tough to get people to do business quickly.

“If a club’s struggling and have got strong players it’s difficult to prise them out, and if the club’s doing well they want to hang onto players.

“What I can say is that we will work 24/7 to bring in people who’ll strengthen the squad.”
