Warburton was confident bringing in Hugill would work

Mark Warburton said he knew bringing in Jordan Hugill would work against Sheffield Wednesday because of QPR’s ability to create chances.

The striker, who is on a season-long loan from West Ham, scored twice to help the R’s come back from a goal down to win 2-1.

Hugill now has five goals this season – almost as many as he scored in 37 league games on loan at Middlesbrough last term.

Boss Warburton praised the 27-year-old following his performance at Hillsborough, as well as the team in general.

He said: “I knew it [getting Hugill] would work for us because we create chances as a team.

“We’ve got quality players. You look around the park we’ve got good quality and, as I said, in terms of chance creation we’re very high in the table.

“You need someone who has that character who would feed off of that. A good striker feeds off of good chances and I told him he’d get that by coming to QPR, and he has. He’s responded really well.

“There were good quality finishes today I’m sure he upset a few in the crowd. But you have to do that. You have to come to a tough venue and draw the fouls, and you have to be strong, and you have to look after the football and link play – and he did all of those and more.

“I’m delighted for him but it’s a team game. He’ll be the first to say that the team, in general, were very good today. Really good.”
