Holloway: QPR need to be like Brentford

Ian Holloway says QPR need to emulate Brentford as his side look to strengthen following a troubled season.

The Bees did the double over their west London neighbours and will finish the campaign comfortably in mid-table.

And while Rangers’ big-spending in recent years has backfired, Brentford have continued to buy shrewdly on a much more modest budget.

Holloway believes that has helped Dean Smith’s team develop a style of football the R’s have been unable to implement.

“We’ve got to try getting that (Brentford’s set-up) in place, and if our fans don’t like me saying that then I’m sorry but I can only be honest,” said Holloway.

“Brentford have grown because of the way they’ve been asked to pass, move and play. When I was trying to do that we were losing.

“The players will now have a chance to develop and move the ball so they’ll become more comfortable – that’s what I intend to do.”

  • Disappointing to see Brentford mentioned in the same sentence as West London's 4th club.

  • Can someone explain to me how our manager can quote "Brentford and QPR" in the same sentence. Let's face it QPR have far better players and more history. Yes the QPR players and management should hold their heads in shame over an appalling season, but please don't tell me that we should emulate a team that is nothing more than a mid table team at best! Holloway needs to aim a little higher I feel!

  • Next season we should start with a simple 4 4 2 system that everyone is comfortable with & work from that as confidence grows.
As for buying in fresh faces who knows I just think our boys lack of shots on goal has been our downfall a bit of shoot on sight to get a defence on the back foot instead of trying to walk the ball in

  • So Holloway wants QPR to be more like Brentford then?

Strange, since Bees are one of the three teams he tipped for relegation from the Championship at the beginning of this season. (Huddersfield were another lol)

  • Talking some sense for once but if they want to play football they need some players and they have none
