Hasselbaink suggests fatigue was a factor in QPR loss

QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink felt tiredness was a factor in his team’s below-par display against Preston.

Rangers, beaten at Barnsley on Wednesday, lost 2-0 at Loftus Road, where Nedum Onuoha scored an own goal.

Preston’s home loss against Derby on Tuesday was their third defeat in as many league games this season, but they were worthy winners against a poor Rangers side.

“We looked second best and couldn’t get going,” said Hasselbaink.

“You have to give Preston credit. They did well, put us on the back foot and we looked flat.

“We looked like we had 24 hours less to recover. It looked a big ask. When you have a big squad it doesn’t matter, but when you don’t then it does.

“As as a group, we expected more and wanted more but couldn’t deliver. We didn’t look like us.

“Individual errors cost us. But we are a team – we lose together and we win together.

“Today though we didn’t have the concentration and the calmness to pass the ball, and I don’t know why.”

Rangers struggled to create openings before Hasselbaink made an attacking change in the second half, replacing Karl Henry with striker Conor Washington.

Asked if he had considered starting with Washington, the Dutchman said: “He provided us with something, but no I didn’t think of starting with him today – hindsight is a beautiful thing.

“Sebastian Polter and Tjaronn Chery have been doing really well and I wanted to continue – especially because of the bad result on Wednesday

“I wanted to give certain individuals an opportunity to put it right.”

  • Fatigue is a poor excuse. All the teams in the Championship have played 5 games (including Cup) and we have players that Jimmy could have selected had he assessed his team's fitness on Friday properly. Jimmy would get more respect had he been honest and said he selected the wrong team. Back to normal at Rangers!

  • A team plays to instructions they don't make it up as they go along, we had continule high long balls in windy conditions, any profesional can see the problembut it must have been the order, midfield bypassed, football zero, bring back Faurlin the only playmaking midfielder we've had in years

  • Of all the poor excuses I have heard fromQPR managers, fatigue has to be the worst, especially as we have employed two new fitness coach's,tends to suggest Jfh and the team not up to the job.Any manager worth their job knows they need a squad not a team in the championship, are the fans to pay for mr Fernandes now zipping up his pockets, when is he going to realise what's needed at our football club to win a league like ours.

  • JFH
Please fatigue!!! these are professional football players just admit some of the players aren't good enough
you do talk out of your bottom sometimes JFH

  • Glad for an honest assessment from JFH. I believe he and the team will come good. It might take a season or two though.

  • No excuse, we were totally rubbish today,
If as a boss someone said to me fatigue is at fault I would send them home.
We were very, very poor... what gas happened to the presure team of two weeks ago, the team we were told is fitter and stronger! !!@

  • Qpr average championship side. Do well to avoid the drop. Henry, onuah, perch....... Say no more!
