QPR fail to threaten in defeat at Sheffield United

Sheffield Utd 1 QPR 0

David McGoldrick’s goal eight minutes before half-time was enough for Sheffield United.

Striker McGoldrick started and finished the move, laying the ball off to Ollie Norwood on the right and then getting in front of Toni Leistner to head home the former Fulham loanee’s cross.

Rangers were under some pressure in the early stages and McGoldrick missed a decent chance for the hosts.

Billy Sharp found space and cleverly directed Norwood’s ball over the top into the path of McGoldrick, who scuffed his shot wide.

The Blades then struggled to create clear-cut chances until McGoldrick made the most of the next chance to come his way.

QPR had more possession in the second half but only when Luke Freeman fired narrowly wide late on did they register a meaningful effort on goal.
