Caulker decision ‘difficult to understand’

Lokomotiv Moscow president Ilya Gerkus has told Russian newspaper Sport Express he remains unsure why Steven Caulker backed out of a proposed loan move to his club.

West London Sport revealed in January that Caulker was discussing joining Lokomotiv, with QPR keen for the defender to go.

It was subsequently reported elsewhere that the deal had been agreed, but that was not the case and in the end Caulker, who has not played since October, decided against the move.

“From a football point of view, it is difficult to understand the failure of Caulker,” Gerkus apparently said.

“He’s still not playing, and the club wanted to get rid of him.”

Gerkus also appeared to suggest that his club are still interested in signing Caulker this summer.

QPR manager Ian Holloway said this week that Caulker is close to return to action.
