QPR v Brighton player ratings

QPR were undone by two second-half goals in the space of six minutes at Loftus Road. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in the 2-1 defeat against Brighton.

Alex Smithies: 6

Rarely under pressure, the Rangers goalkeeper was left completely exposed for Glenn Murray’s opener – but he was slow to get across as Sebastien Pocognoli’s free-kick made it 2-0.

James Perch: 6

Starting as a wing-back, Perch got forward well and was also unlucky not to score when his volley was charged down just before half-time.

Nedum Onuoha: 5

While the Rangers skipper produced timely challenges to foil Tomer Hemed and Glenn Murray, it was his error that allowed Murray to race clear and open the scoring early in the second half.

Grant Hall: 7

Apart from a late mistake that almost let Murray in again as Rangers chased a late equaliser, Hall was largely solid in his defensive role and brought the ball out well.

Joel Lynch: 7

Worked hard to keep Brighton at bay in the first half and put in a vital tackle to deny the dangerous Anthony Knockaert.

Jack Robinson: 5

Making his first start for four months – and it showed in an uneasy performance as he was repeatedly caught out of position.

Ryan Manning: 7

As always, the young midfielder showed bags of desire and was never afraid to have a shot at goal. His hard work set up a golden chance for substitute Idrissa Sylla late on.

Massimo Luongo: 8

Built on his impressive display at Villa Park, pulling his side’s creative strings to set up a high proportion of their attacking moves as well as tracking back when necessary.

Ravel Morrison: 5

Now and then Morrison looked good on the ball, but more frequently the game seemed to pass him by and it was no surprise when he was withdrawn after 65 minutes.

Conor Washington: 6

At times Washington looked like a striker trying too hard to regain his goal touch but he was always alert, sniffing out loose balls and doing his utmost to bring team-mates into play. Missed a decent chance when he blasted over though.

Matt Smith: 7

The big centre-forward won his fair share of headers throughout, forcing one close-range save from David Stockdale before getting up to head Luke Freeman’s corner home and halve the deficit.

Yeni Ngbakoto: 6

There were few opportunities for the Frenchman to shine after coming on to replace Robinson midway through the second half, although he did drag a half-chance wide in injury time.

Luke Freeman 8

The effervescent midfielder gave Rangers fresh impetus as soon as he replaced Morrison, supplying a chance for Smith almost immediately and then setting up his goal 17 minutes from time. Another substitute, Sylla, missed a glorious late chance to equalise.

  • Just cannot see the comment and marks on Luongo. Broke up play but his passing was poor. Half a yard behind the Brighton players. 5 . Thought Ravel was tidy, passed better than
Luongo although perhaps a little unambitious . 6. Taken off as just not match fit surely.
